Everton 0 VS. 1 Liverpool Monday (19/12/2016) 21:00 (WAT)
EVERTON TEAM NEWS & PREVIEW
Everton host Liverpool in the first Merseyside derby
of the season on Monday night.
The Toffees will be full of confidence heading into
this game after their 2-1 win over Arsenal. Ronald
Koeman’s men picked up a last gasp win over the
Gunners thanks to a late winner from Ashley
Williams.
Everton were without a win in five Premier League
games before the win over Arsenal and will be
looking to build on it now. A win over bitter rivals
Liverpool could be a massive boost for them.
Furthermore, the Blues have a terrible record against
Liverpool and have failed to win any of their last six
meetings. They will be looking to fix that record in
front of the home fans.
Star defender Phil Jagielka is suspended for the
Merseyside derby on Monday after being sent off
against Arsenal. However, Gareth Barry’s return
should be a boost for Koeman.
Arouna Kone, Yannick Bolasie, Matthew Pennington
and Muhamed Besic are all sidelined as well.
Predicted Everton Starting Lineup (4-3-3):
Stekelenburg; Coleman, Mori, Williams, Baines;
Gueye, Barry, Barkley; Valencia, Lennon, Lukaku
LIVERPOOL TEAM NEWS & PREVIEW
Liverpool bounced back from their recent dip in form
with a convincing 3-0 win over Middlesbrough last
night. The Reds had drawn and lost against West
Ham and Bournemouth prior to that.
Jurgen Klopp will be looking to put together another
winning run and the Merseyside derby could provide
him with the perfect platform.
The Reds are very much in the title race this season
and cannot afford to fall further behind. Chelsea are
already six points ahead and therefore Monday’s
game is a must win for the away side. They have
done well against Everton in the last few seasons and
will look to continue that trend.
Grujic, Daniel Sturridge, Philippe Coutinho and
Danny Ings are the only major injury worries for
Klopp. Emre Can and Joel Matip missed the game
against Middlesbrough, but they are expected to
recover in time for Monday’s clash.
Predicted Liverpool Starting Lineup (4-3-3): Mignolet;
Clyne, Matip, Lovren, Milner; Wijnaldum, Lallana,
Henderson; Mane, Origi, Firmino
